Methodical seminar for partners of the project “Archaeology, Authority and Community” in Pskov

On the 31st of January and 1st of February 2013 the methodical seminar, working meeting of Steering committee and Steering group of the project took place in Pskov.

The seminar was organized by the Pskov museum-reserve with participation of the project partners: Tartu University, Archaeological center of  Pskov region and Independant non-profit organization «Pskov archaeological Centre».

Representatives of almost all the partner organizations participated in the seminar. The main issues discussed at the seminar were the summing up the 1st reporting period of the project as well as implementation and planning of joint events for 2013.

The partners presented their results of the 1st reporting period about the main activities such as: field inventories of the border territory conducted in order to define the state of preservation of known archaeological monuments and identify new archaeological objects; archeological excavations of decaying monuments; assessment of condition of archaeological collections; formation of thematic databases; organization of information actions for popularization of archeology, etc.

The brightest results of the first year of the AAC project implementation are the following events: the publication of the popular scientific archaeological magazine “Tutulus” by University of Tartu; broadcast series on the regional radio-station by Pskov Archaeological Center; carrying out the first stage of repair works in a new depository for archeology funds by the Pskov museum-reserve; purchase of the restoration equipment by Archaeological center of Pskov region and research in archives and study of the archaeological collections of Aluksne museum by Institute of Latvian History.

Important outcomes of the seminar were the decision to release a series of popular scientific booklets on archeology topics with common design for all partners, agreements on the main subjects of popular science films and the requirements for the documentation of developing tourist routes.

At the end of the seminar a press conference took place. The University of Tartu was represented by Heiki Valk, the project coordinator from the Leading partner, the head of archaeological office, PhD in History; Maria Smirnova, project manager; Viire Pajuste, PR and promotion specialist; Pskov museum- reserve was represented by Elvira Koroleva, Russian project coordinator, head of archeology funds department of the Pskov museum-reserve, PhD in history; Archaeological center of Pskov region was represented by the director of this institution Elena Yakovleva; other staff members of both Estonian and Russian partner organizations were also present at the conference.

The next methodical seminar for the project partners will also be held in Pskov in March 2013.
